I had a bit of an experience dealing with a promoter on MSN this morning. I have chatted to him just once on there before, he also has my phone number because he has been promising me bookings all over the UK including a huge festival next summer.
I don't know if it will interest you, but thought I would post it up on here so that you can see what it is like being female in this business. In 10yrs doing this, I have come to think of it as part of the job, and I expect it's something that guys in the industry don't ever experience.
While many of my dealings with potential bookers are like this, fortunately there are also lots of really professional promoters and agents. And I prefer to do business with them instead.
The only thing I am worried about is what this guy will say to other promoters about me. He knows a lot of people so could do damage to my reputation if he feels like being vindictive. I don't think I did anything wrong.. except perhaps I should have said nothing and played the game, because then I might still have potential bookings from him.
I just didn't want him to think that he could talk to me like that, I wanted to nip it in the bud.
I would love to know your thoughts!!

if you got involved with a promoter like this it might be more trouble than it's worth, always having to fend him off. what does he expect? you to throw in a little hanky panky with the deal, jeez. he obviously has no respect for women, he makes those comments under the "guise" of joking, but he's just testing you...to see how you'll respond. he
wants to see if you'll be a good girl and play his game, otherwise he'll block you off his msn and reprimand you for being such a "bad girl".
ie. not playing up to his chauvinism.
good job in confronting him, why should you keep silent if you are offended by his comments.
